PANDEMIC COVID-19 PREPAREDNESS PLAN IN THE WORKPLACE: A CASE STUDY IN MINING COMPANY – LITERATURE REVIEW
Abstract
Pandemic COVID-19 preparedness plan in mining industry is very essential to protect mining’s workers. Mining facilities are generally located in a remote area which are far from government facilities so they must be independent with their ability to be able to tackle/reduce the spread of COVID-19 at the company locations, which increasing risks to mining workers. However, whether the pandemic COVID-19 preparedness plan is reliable enough and the goal of development of the pandemic COVID-19 preparedness is achieved, a standard score index is needed as a valuable input to all mining companies to do continues improvement of their pandemic COVID-19 preparedness plan so the mining company does not have to cease their operations due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study will review current best practices for pandemic COVID-19 preparedness plan in mining industries to build a pandemic preparedness index. Methodology used in this study includes search keyword “pandemic preparedness plan”, “pandemic response”, and “COVID-19 pandemic response plan” amongst several databases including google scholar, scopus, pubmed, science direct. Critical review involves comparison amongst different sectors including from healthcare checklist, government, and mining industries. Result suggested there are several elements for pandemic COVID-19 preparedness including leadership, risk management, case management, health protocols, 3T (tracing, testing and treatment), emergency management, and case investigations has been identified as key elements to be included. Scoring system can be based on the level of implementation of each element. In conclusion, in order to better prepared in future pandemic, several strategies been identified to further better managed pandemic including workers and community participation, workers and public-led crisis communication and RCCE (Risk Communication and Community Engagement) strategies.
