ANXIETY LEVEL AND COMPLIANCE WITH HEALTH PROTOCOLS IN AIRLANGGA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract


COVID-19 Pandemic in Indonesia develops into a full of uncertain situations that leads to psychological impact, including anxiety. Anxiety is influenced by a variety of factors in order to elicit anxiety responses that can affect people’s behavior to comply with health protocols. The aim of this study is to determine the correlation between anxiety levels and adherence to protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic in Airlangga University students. This study used observational analytic, cross sectional design among students in Airlangga University. Sampling method was using consecutive sampling technique. Instruments used were Coronavirus Anxiety Scores and questionnaire about health protocol compliance in pandemic, in Google Form. The parameters of health protocol such as: using masks, hand hygiene, vitamin consumption, eating out, and not to touch the face. Data analyzed by using Microsoft Excel and SPSS Ver. 16. In this study, among 458 subjects of Airlangga University found that 6.8% had dysfunctional anxiety and 93,2% were not anxious based on Coronavirus Anxiety Scale. There was significant correlation between anxiety level and vitamin consumption (p<0,05, r= 0.147), the more anxious subject the more compliance consumed vitamins. Based on this study, females have a higher score of anxiety level compared to men. Corona Anxiety level may increase students' awareness to comply with health protocol. Further study is needed in order to find other determinant factors of health protocol compliance.
