Abstract

ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework is a collective response by Southeast Asian countries towards Covid-19 pandemic. One aim outlined in the framework is to accelerate the introduction of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education. This is because ICT is seen as suitable alternative to ensure the continuity of education during the pandemic. In line with the framework, this study aims to provide a guideline for creating video lectures in higher education. The need of such guideline stems from the fact that video lectures are actively used currently especially in higher education. The guideline focuses on two significant elements of video lectures namely video lecture style and rhetorical structure. ESP genre tradition was used to describe the rhetorical structure where the structure was described using moves and steps. On the other hand, the video lecture style was described using two factors namely human embodiment and instructional media. Five moves and twenty steps were included in the guideline. On the other hand, four human embodiment and five instructional media were listed to describe the video lecture styles. Video lecture makers can choose from the list of move and step as well as the human embodiment and instructional media. Consequently, by combining the important elements, video lecture makers can construct a plan that can assist in creating, organising and later recording video lectures. Conclusively, by using the guideline, video lecture makers can make informed decision in choosing the best rhetorical structure and video lecture styles for their video lectures.
