3D-PRINTED REUSABLE MASK FOR HEALTHCARE DURING COVID-19
Abstract
The Coronavirus Infectious Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which can be spread via virus containing airborne particles. Healthcare workers face the challenge of protecting themselves and patients during this difficult times. In the beginning of pandemic, there were shortage of medical masks particularly N95 respirator. In addition, the usage of disposable medical and N95 mask has generated huge volume of infectious, plastic waste. This research aims to fabricate N95-alternative 3D-printed respirator that will help the healthcare workers and reduce mask waste. We focus on the design and fabrication of 3D printed facial mask that is equipped with mask filter. The filter is made of coated polyester non-woven fabrics to improve its virus and bacteria selectivity, hence protecting the user from airborne diseases such as Covid-19. Aside of protecting the user, this type of mask significantly reduces the amount of plastic waste generated from the mask users.
