OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR GREEN-IT

Abstract


Environmental challenge has become a critical global issue due to concerns about environmental sustainability, time to seize the opportunity to tackle the challenge. The Information Technology (IT) industry significantly impacts the environment, as its utilization growth is caused by massive energy consumption. Green Information Technology (Green IT) is recognized as one of the keys to achieving environmental sustainability. However, the absence of a practice Green IT to address environmental challenges has identified a significant gap. We discuss opportunities and challenges for Green IT, propose a Green IT practices strategy, and discuss recommendations for future research.
