WORK LIFE BALANCE OF WORKERS DURING A COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND ITS IMPACT ON JOB SATISFACTION

Abstract


COVID-19 pandemic that hit in early 2020 changed every aspect of daily life, work life balance of workers included. Work life balance is defined as a balance between roles and responsibilities at work and outside work such as family and social life that runs in a balanced manner without interfering the interests of others and achieving satisfaction for both. Workers were worried about the chance of getting infected by COVID-19. They were required to be able to work from home or from the office to maintain productivity. On the other hand, the activities both in work, family and social life were pretty much limited. This would certainly affect job satisfaction. This study aimed to determine the effect of workers' work life balance on job satisfaction. This study used cross-sectional design, as many as 59 respondents participated in this study. The data was obtained using a valid and reliable questionnaire. The work life balance questionnaire and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire were used for data collection. Data analysis used Descriptive Analysis and Linear Regression Analysis. This study showed that the work life balance of workers significantly affects job satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic by 68%. While the other 32% was the influence of other variables that were not examined. This study recommended that companies paid attention to the work life balance of workers during the COVID-19 pandemic by implementing various work life balance policies that were customized based on working environment.
