Abstract

Currently, it is imperative to establish the safety of a COVID-19 vaccine when emergency approval is granted for this vaccine without completing all phases of clinical trials. If previously vaccination in Indonesia was given to medical personnel and critical populations, now Indonesia is entering a stage 4 vaccination program aimed at the public from 18-60 years of age. Preliminary studies are needed regarding the side effects of vaccination in certain population groups. The study of side effects for whole inactivated virus vaccine at young age are still incomplete. Therefore, we will present the data of whole Inactivated virus vaccine side effects at young age. This study used a young adult population (18-24 years) because of their high compliance, technology literacy, and without chronic or degenerative disease, so that it can become a standard for a healthy population. The study was conducted by observing samples vaccinated with the Whole Inactivated virus vaccine produced by Sinovac for 30 minutes on the spot and then continued with online monitoring using an online-based questionnaire monitored at 1 hour, 6 hours, and 24 hours after vaccination. This study is expected to describe the incidence of side effects of administering two doses of each of the COVID-19 vaccines manufactured by Sinovac up to 24 hours after vaccination in young adults (18 – 24 years). There were 252 participants in this study the mean age was 19.3 years. In the first 1 hour the patient's mean temperature was 36.7. From the results of observations, 183 patients did not feel any side effects, 36 felt pain at the injection site, and there were no systemic reactions or side effects in all participants that found in 18–59-year population (i.e., Diarrhea, Fever, Hypersensitivity, Cough, and other systemic symptom). The research is still ongoing to see the side effect of second dose. From the observation on the first dose, the whole inactivated vaccine has minimal side effects and has a good safety level.
