DETERIORATION OF WELLBEING INDEX IN GENERAL POPULATION IN INDONESIA DURING THE PANDEMIC OF COVID-19
Abstract
This study aimed to examine the change in wellbeing status of the general public after starting the COVID-19 pandemic and its association with changes in sociodemographic characteristic and life style. A web-based survey was conducted in July 2020 approximately 5 month after starting the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Targeted study population are men and women aged 18-64 years old. Participants asked for the changes after starting the COVID-19 pandemic in wellbeing index and the daily routines as well as their sociodemographic characteristic (consist of age, gender, education background, occupation and current economic status) as moderating variable. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to elucidate factors associated with deterioration in wellbeing index. A total of 1194 respondents are participated in this study consist of 64.7% female, and 35,6% are in 18-24 years old age group, 425 of them are graduated from college degree, and approximately 50% of them are working in formal sectors. There has been a cleasr shift to sedentary life such as spending more time in internet surfing (53.7%), social media usage (47%), and watching TV (24%) and working with computer from home (31%). Interestingly only 28% of the study participants are likely to do sport. Bivariate analysis showed that there is a significant difference in well being index before and after pandemic. The logistic regression analysis reported that younger age and lower level of occupation are likely to suffer from wellbeing deterioration.
This finding indicated that the pandemic of covid19 likely to have significant impact in wellbeing deterioration among younger age and those with poor socioeconomic statusĀ
